A Whetstones is used to sharpen the edges of steel tools and implements such as:
knives, scissors, razors, chisels etc.
Whetstones come is 3 main grits.

Course: (120-800 grit) restoring old knives or knife repair.

Medium : (800- 2000 grit) sharpening new knives or knives that don’t require a lot of material to be removed.

Fine : (3000+) polishing stones that hardly remove any metal. This will take your knife from a paper cutter to a hair remover if and only if you have done the medium grit correctly.
