King Whetstone are well known throughout the world.

The 1000 is a “medium” stone. Great for sharpening well maintained knives.
If you struggle to get a burr with the 1000 consider a lower grit stone.

The 6000 is a “polishing” stone and is a great grit to finish a sharpening progression with.
If you want the extra edge I recommend a leather strop.

Most combination stones come in a 1000/3000 setup.
The 1000/6000 is more ideal in my opinion.

Works very well, I have sharpened my knife and woodworking chisels. Both can slice paper after I’m finished.

I got my knives really sharp with this stone. It works great. Only problem is that whatever is in the stone composite really stinks. I got the water all over my knifes rosewood handle and it really embedded in there. Stunk the kitchen out and I had to rinse the handle off repeatedly but smell is still there. I should have wrapped the handle for sharpening but how could I have known? Smells like a weird solvent … maybe thats common for japanese stones but I dont like it.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS STONE! excellent value for the price. If anybody wants razor sharp knives and a great quality stone, this will do it. I love the feel of this stone. It’s quite large and has a great surface area. One downfall I found though is it can be very easy to shave off the 6000 grit part if your technique slips for the slightest fraction, and you could be left with a minor gouge mark. I don’t know if this is common with other high grit stones or just this one. I have bought a 3000 grit so that I can Have more steps. I really love this stone
