The Morihei Whetstone, Hishiboshi (Hi) Series is a step up from the Shapton Whetstones in my opinion.
These are high performance synthetic stones have larger dimensions than the Shapton series and are longer lasting.
Regarded as professional stones.

NO SOAKING REQUIRED! Just “splash and go”.

#4000 should be the second or third stone in your stone progression.
Example stone progression: #500–> #1000 –> #4000 –>#12000/leather strop.

About Morihei:
Morihei is a knife and whetstone supplier located in Asakusabashi, Tokyo. They have been a part of the industry for over 100 years, including the predecessor of Morihei “Oguro-Morihei-Shouten“. At one point in time, more than 20 groups of blacksmiths and sharpeners were working exclusively under Morihei. They are one of the only companies in Japan with a long-standing history of relationships with blacksmiths and whetstone and natural stone makers that still exists today.

VERY NICE STONE. Gives my knives an angry fucking edge that is screaming sharp. Quite a nice feel. I think that anything above this grit is just getting overkill and expensive. This stone + a strop is going to result in a disgustingly sharp edge. My current progression is chosera 400> chosera 1000 > morihei 4000 > strop.
I used to use the king 6000, but I prefer the results of this morihei 4000 as I feel like it gives it a more bitey edge.
